The retina is a thin tissue at the back of the eye which transmits visual impulses to the brain and allows interpretation of eyesight. A retinal detachment causes a separation of this layer from the underlying tissue due to various causes such as trauma, bleeding, severity of near-sightedness, medications or surgery.
